Solving Problems with Jails & Military Manpower
by kathy@truthisbetter.org Last updated 2004-05-11

The Military Reserves are quickly losing many members due to year-long repeated deployments they've had during Bush's "war against terrorism". Reservists lose income, must leave their wives and children, as well as risk losing their jobs by serving in a war that has more to do with oil and may actually exascerbate terrorism. Therefore they have begun quitting the Military Rerserves and National Guard in record numbers. It isn't fair to them.

Meanwhile due to laws that take discretion away from judges such as the "three strikes" rule and "mandatory drug sentencing" laws, persons who are not really criminals are traumatized in jails have great difficulty afterwards fitting back into society.

Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to give judges, and the military the option of offering military service rather than jail as an option for a convicted person if all three parties agree? It would save society money and make a valuable citizen.
